Pastoral Care at St Faith's

We pride ourselves on the standard of our pastoral care of the children, which supports all that we do at St Faith's.

We believe that children who feel safe, secure and happy are those who are best able to learn, so, from the very first contact that the children have with the school, we work to achieve this aim.

We want children to be safe in the knowledge that there are always people who will help them, to be secure in the company of staff and peers who treat them with respect, friendship and to be happy to come to school every day.

The structure of houses, house tutors, the PSHCE lessons, circle times and assemblies are the formal means of achieving these things. The quality of the relationship between teacher and pupil is the informal means of achieving them.

The structure of houses includes the following key ingredients:  the house system, house tutors and tutor sessions, house assemblies, friendship groups, ‘being our best selves’, house prefects, peer mentoring, ‘At Homes’ and the buddy scheme.

Our Ethos

We encourage our children to explore and discover, to interpret and feel, to compete and to be challenged, to work together and to support one another and thus to grow in confidence while they learn what kind of people they should be.

Pastoral Care was one of the areas particularly commended in the 2007 ISI Inspection Report on St Faith's:

Behaviour is exemplary and pupils display a caring, kind and respectful attitude to one another and their teachers at all times.’
Children 'leave as confident, articulate individuals with a strong sense of responsibility.’
‘Pupils’ behaviour and their positive attitudes to learning are of a high standard.’
‘The pastoral arrangements are excellent.’
